Contexto

The Directorate General for Research and Technological Innovation sought to bring govtech concepts and programs closer to the City Councils of the Community of Madrid. Therefore, through the Fundación para el Conocimiento madri+d, a new 2023-2024 edition of Govtechlab Madrid, the laboratory that promotes the digital transformation of Madrid's public administrations through open innovation, is being developed. From there, pre-commercial spaces are promoted where public teams can identify and test new digital solutions and thus inform their future demand for technology in a more open, transparent and competitive way.

Govtech Lab

Based on a proprietary govtech open innovation methodology, we define challenges with public teams, activate the govtech entrepreneurial ecosystem to receive solution proposals from startups, scaleups and digital SMEs, and facilitate the piloting of at least 10 of these solutions. To do so, we rely on public policy experts, service designers and scouters (who actively search for the best solutions for each defined challenge).

Solutions are managed in a dedicated space on the Open Gobe open innovation platform.

Some of the themes of the challenges have been environmental quality and waste, improvement of citizen relation services and digitalization and automation of internal management processes.

Govtech Academia

During the implementation of the govtech lab, we developed a training offer that complements the practical experience. It has already impacted 40 civil servants. It is aimed at the teams that own the challenges and has the objective of leaving innovation capabilities in the teams. In addition, we organize bootcamps for start-ups to learn how to work and collaborate with public institutions.

Open work

We make all the work developed visible to help develop more innovative solutions and define new challenges. In addition, we propose a new way of communicating innovation from the public sector.

Regional and international govtech ecosystem

We are promoting the Madrid govtech ecosystem, which already has 70 interconnected actors and which we will continue to promote with the initiative of the Community of Madrid Govtech Cities, a strategy to generate community, dissemination and visibility of Madrid cities committed to innovation within their institutions. In addition, we link up with the world's leading govtech laboratories.
